"158.5" (1996) DRUM+BASS

158.5 began as an experiment.
Although DJ Met had managed to establish a foothold in the southeastern US club scene, spinning funky house, he briefly dabbled in Drum + Bass after being turned on to it by DJ Bobble from Atlanta, GA.
Curious, Met picked up a stack of D+B vinyl from Satellite Records.
Soon, the 12'' tunes, combined with the idea of mixing hip hop and R&B vocals at half the speed over the frenetic beats made made their way into live performances and eventually a mix cassette that featured all female vocals, with the complete title of "158.5 (female version)"
Met handed out copies to friends and a few promoters for sh*ts and giggles.
In no time, the whole thing began to snowball; one copy turned into 20 and so on. Eventually, over 1,500 were ran with the help of rave vendor extraordinaire
Jen Solo and South Carolina Mix tape king Greg Fish of Big Fish productions.
URB Magazine even gave 158.5 a favorable review in its 1997, volume 55 issue. Gigs exploded as a direct result. For the remainder of '97 and well into 1998, Met toured the United States with the same modest crate of vinyl that started it all.
A sequel to 158.5 was planned, featuring all male vocals but the idea was ultimately shelved with side 1 of "Supa True Playa" being the only remnant remaining of the planed direct followup.
By 1998, Met acknowledged that Drum + Bass was fun and because of it, national name recognition was right around the corner but he chose to be true to his first love, House Music.
